The name ‘Mersch Anne Beffort International School’ is perfectly suited to the new school for the following reasons: Madame Anne Beffort (1880-1966) literally personified and even prefigured, by her very being and existence, the evolution of the former domestic school into a new, lasting international school. The daughter of a gardener and one of 12 siblings, Madame Anne Beffort defied all the social obstacles and prohibitions of the time to become the first woman to hold a doctorate from the Sorbonne in Luxembourg and the first woman teacher in the Grand Duchy. Co-founder of the Lycée de Jeunes Filles (Lycée Robert Schuman) and a teacher with heart and soul, her unparalleled courage led her to stand up to the occupying forces during the Second World War. A specialist in Victor Hugo, her unwavering commitment to the French language and culture earned her the Légion d'Honneur from Robert Schuman. A convinced European from the outset, she worked tirelessly for the European ideal throughout her life.

Indicative guide for the evaluation of language levels in the European Schools:
https://europa.eu/europass/en/common-european-framework-reference
a) First choice to carry out : the language section
French-speaking sections (FR) - German-speaking (DE) - English-speaking (FR)
b) Choice of language 1 (L1) : FR - DE - EN - PT - ES - IT
La langue of the section ( ehe teaching of non-linguistic subjects) must be language 1 or language 2 of the student.
However, a student may not choose an L1 other than the langue of section if the corresponding section exists.
So, for example, a student who chooses the FR section cannot take L1 DE or L1 EN because each of these sections exists. S' they wish to do L1DE, they must be enrolled in the DE section. If they wish to do L1 EN, they must be enrolled in the EN section.
The case of langue L1 Portuguese :
A student who wishes to from Portuguese at langue 1 should take must be in Language 2 the langue de la section in which it is embedded.
So a student has the option ofe register in L1 PT and choose one of the school's three sections :
If they choose L1 PT in the French section, their language 2 will automatically be French.
If he chooses L1 PT in section, its thengue 2 will automatically be English.
If they choose L1 PT in the German-speaking section, their language 2 will automatically be German.
c) Choice of language 2 (L2) : FR - DE - EN
Humanities and life and society courses are taught in langue 2 from S3.
The humanities course is divided into two courses: history and geography from S4 onwards. These two courses are also taught in language 2.
Some optional courses are taught in langue 2 (e.g. economics).
d) Choice of language 3 (L3) FR - DE - EN - PT - ES - IT
e) Choice of language 4 from S4 : Optional choice. Offer among European languages.
f) Luxembourgish : Learning Luxembourgish (oral communication mainly) as an integration language is compulsory up to S3. It becomes optional from S4 onwards.
